Interest Meeting Notes
WHO WE ARE
The mission of the Valdosta State University American Marketing Association (VSU-AMA) is to engage VSU students in the field of marketing, enhance learning, and build meaningful relationships by providing opportunities for professional development, networking, community engagement and outreach, and individual growth.
Established as the VSU Marketing Club in 2014, VSU-AMA is a student run professional organization. We are a collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association (THE professional organization for the industry). The number one goal of VSU-AMA is to help students launch their career.
VSU-AMA is fortunate to be attached to two professional chapters. As a member of the University System of Georgia, we are officially a member of the Atlanta Professional chapter of AMA and a member of the AMA Atlanta Collegiate. However, given our close proximity to Jacksonville, we also participate with the Jacksonville professional chapter.

HOW CAN VSU-AMA BENEFIT COMMUNICATIONS & MASS MEDIA MAJORS?
Students in the Communications & Mass Media programs learn skills often used in marketing and Communications/Mass Media professionals are a critical part of any marketing team. Think about it… behind every advertisement, sales pitch, sales promotion, or publicity activity is a Communications/Mass Media professional. Communication & Media are the tools of marketing. One might say that Marketing is the “what,” and Communication & Media is the “how.” Many Communications & Mass Media professionals are hired by marketing agencies, advertising firms, and organizational marketing departments. In fact, the term MARCOM is often used in industry to recognize the close relationship between MARketing and COMmunications.
So, whether your interest is in storytelling, visual communication, digital media, public/media relations, or broadcasting, VSU-AMA has something to offer. VSU-AMA can provide hand-on experience, networking opportunities and training now, and provide resources for when you are ready to hit the job market.
